Dentistry Tips for Kids

It was check-up day today in our household. That meant a trip to the dentist! Dentists are so great to kids these days...giving them prizes, movies to watch while they are in seated, and game systems in the lobby. My kids are actually excited to go to the dentist!

While at the dentist today, I learned some valuable information that I thought I would pass on to you. When brushing your kids' teeth (or when they brush their own teeth) you want the toothpaste to stay on their teeth for 2-5 minutes. (5 minutes being most ideal.) To get the fluoride from the toothpaste in between teeth, you can even floss while the toothpaste is still in their mouth.

Our daughter doesn't like the foamy, "spiciness" of toothpaste so she often likes to immediately rinse out the toothpaste. I always figured that since rinsing your mouth clean with water after eating is a good idea, it was probably fine to do the same thing with brushing. I was wrong. So with her, since she doesn't like the foamy feeling, we are going to try a fluoride rinse for her mouth. And we will floss after using that fluoride rinse.

Anything to keep their teeth healthy and clean!
