Save Money on Your Medications

Let's face it, we live in a world with rising costs. And it seems like healthcare is ahead of the curve. Today there are many medications out there to treat a wide variety of health issues. Unfortunately, in many cases, you can't change the medications your insurance company decides to cover and you can rarely change your co-pay amount. But there is something out there that can help you save money.

Many drug companies are now providing rebate coupons to save you money on your prescriptions. In many cases, the rebate coupon can be applied to the cash price of a medication or your co-pay. The best way to find out if a certain medication has a rebate coupon is to ask your doctor's office, someone at the pharmacy where you get your prescription filled, or look online by entering the drug's name either into a search engine or as the website address.

Some coupons are instant rebates at the pharmacy while most are mail-in rebates. Yes, mail-in rebates do take about 2 minutes of your time to complete, but if you decide not to use them, you are just throwing away free money a pharmaceutical company is willing to give you.

Another way to save money on medications is to visit Partnership for Prescription Assistance (www.pparx.org) . Basically, this website is a search engine for all medication and patient assistance programs. On this website, you enter information about yourself, including the medications you take and your income, and you find out what rebate or discount programs you can qualify for. Even if you have a higher income, you can qualify for programs to save money. Medications are expensive, but you can start saving now! If you know your parents take any medications, make sure to pass this information on them as well. You will be glad you did!
