Toddler-Friendly Family Vacation to San Diego

Several weeks ago we took a family vacation to the Carlsbad Seapointe Resort. This resort is part of a time share program and also available to rent for around $179 a night. We stayed in the 2 bedroom 2 bath condo with a full kitchen, living and dining space. Our condo happened to be steps away from the miniature golf and the pirate ship playground. That was a huge hit for the little ones. The rooms were spacious enough and I was able to share a room with 2 portable cribs in with a double and single bed. The girls had plenty of room to play and run around and the spacious kitchen allowed room for all of our "extra" kid stuff.

The resort is designed for family fun. Every afternoon, we enjoyed activity time with free watercolor, card making and shell designs. They also have a video arcade, gym, and family and adult pools and spas. As an added bonus, they delivered warm chocolate cookies to our room and later in the week had s'more making by the fire. The location was perfect, with the beach across the street and in close range to all the San Diego attractions. It is also one exit away from the Carlsbad outlets and plenty of restaurants and grocery stores.

We had a plan for the week starting with the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. It was really cold and we weren't prepared with the right amount of layering. We ended up starting off with a tasty breakfast at the cafe near the entrance. Once we we devoured our whole wheat breakfast burritos, we made our way through the park to the tram that takes you through the African Plains. The park is gigantic so make sure you don't miss the animals you want to see. During our freezing tram ride we were able to see lions, rhinos, zebras, giraffes and much more. My girls were really quite young for this, they are used to the zoo where the animals are up close. We played on the jungle gym equipment and breezed past the bats and the gorillas, took a ride on the carrousel and headed home.

We were so tired and so cold that we only covered a small section of the park. I think if we had come better prepared and not had a sick child with us we would have seen more. This was the only location I didn't map out online in advance which was unfortunate because I know the kids would have loved to have seen the elephants.

Stay tuned for all the details about our trip to Sea World, Legoland, and exploring around our resort!

We too, just vacationed in San Diego. We stayed across from the outlets in Carlsbad....at the Carlsbad by the Sea resort.
One activity that our three little boys enjoyed was the Encinitas Botanical Gardens.
A really fun family-friendly restaurant in Encinitas is called Hapi Fish. It is the kid's favorite place for dinner.
These are all near Carlsbad also.
