What to Do with a Cold or the Flu

If you have a cold or flu antibiotics won't work for you.

Colds and the flu are caused by viruses, not bacteria. Taking antibiotics when you have a virus may do more harm than good.

Cough and nasal discharge can last over 2 weeks with a virus or flu. Use over the counter medications to alleviate your specific symptoms, get plenty of rest and stay hydrated.

If symptoms worsen after 5-7 days, go see your medical provider for an evaluation.

Don't forget to get your flu shot!

I work at a hospital and we are all required to have flu shots so that is good.

The body can take care of itself in some remarkable ways if we just let it.

I'm a believer of rest, fluids and sweating it out (literally).

Wash, wash, and wash your hands and try to avoid crowds!
