I love to shop...especially for clothes. And it seems these days I am purchasing more and more clothes online. (My kids + shopping for me = disaster)
Just recently, I found out about this amazing online boutique called Future:Standard. I was drawn to the website because of the clothing they carry. But I am even more impressed with Future:Standard's concept and business model.
Future:Standard provides ethical clothing and accessories. "Ethical" clothing? What does that mean?
Today, ethical clothing is undefined. It can mean anything from fair trade to eco-friendly to transparency in production. There are no guidelines in place. At Future:Standard, they use the term to define any item that has taken into account the planet and the people producing the item.
What a cool concept, right?
The sad thing I realized after finding out about Future:Standard is that if a boutique like this exists, that means there are companies that don't take into account the planet or the people producing them.
That seems so crazy to me, but then I recall the sweat shop stories on the news and am reminded that many companies, especially ones run in foreign countries that the U.S. can't regulate, are more concerned with profit than the planet. But as Future:Standard points out, wouldn't it be nice if we could have both???
That's the great news...with a company like Future:Standard, you can have both!
Cute clothes + thoughtful of the planet = great choice!!!
