Butter never goes bad as long as you keep it in the fridge, right? Actually, it is a common misconception that butter doesn't expire for more than a year. It actually lasts one to three months in your refrigerator. Butter does start to turn after a month or two in the fridge. It might look and smell OK, but its composition is deteriorating and it's turning rancid. If you are on the fence and it's been there more than two months, toss it. However, butter will last six to nine months in your freezer.

Freezing butter is the way to go- especially if you are a baker. Buy it on sale , and stash in the freezer. I have not noticed any change when using the butter in recipes.
Holy crap my butters 187 years old!!!
Very cool tip! Thanks! I never knew this... I must pass this on to my in-laws!

Good to know!
Wait... You can freeze butter??? FABULOUS!
My Hubby thinks I'm totally weird b/c I grew up leaving butter in the butter dish on the counter. That way it's soft and spreadable. I hate refrigerated butter--it breaks the toast!
